    '57 Bolt questions

Time is drawing near for the regional meet in Asheville and I am down to the last few details. My questions are, What are the correct bolts for the hood support and are ALL the bolts, except for the 2 tapping screws, for the splash shield supposed to be 1/4 X 20 clutch heads?? Thanks

    Re: '57 Bolt questions

    Rex,
On my '56 the hood support 1/4" X 20"s X ? heads are marked "L". "TR"'s would be OK in my book as well. What I would not expect to see would be a grade 5 or possibly no head marking at all. The splash pan to inner fender and to the side of the body (2) are clutch head screws. Good luck on the field! Regards,

What are the bolts that attach the 2 parts of the splash shield? the reason I ask is that I ordered a hardware kit that was supposed to have all the bolts. It came with 11 clutch head machine screws. If all of the machine screws are supposed to be clutch heads, 8 are needed on each side.

            Rex,
As a '56 owner I forgot about those little splash pan extensions. Sorry. Looking at the AIM it is not apparent what type of bolts hold the extension to the pan. In the 3rd edition of the Judging Guide a splashpan drawing on pg. 25 those two bolts look like clutch heads. There are three clutch heads on the inner fender to upper splash pan section, two c/h's on the horizontal body lip ('56) and then two c/h's on the pan extension. Sounds like seven clutch heads per side are required. However I'm not absolutely sure about those two holding the pan extension are clutch heads. Regards,
