I am trying to remove my heater control instrument bezel, and was hoping someone could give a little advise as to an easy way to remove the knobs. The top one removes easily, but the bottom two are cable attached. Any advise here is greatly appreciated. Thanks, Craig #36551

Re: 61 Heater Control Instrument Bezel Removal
Craig, the knobs are pressed on to the shafts which have serration on them to retain the knobs. The knobs can only be removed by destroying them. On eariler models you can just squeeze them with a pair of vise grips until the knob splits, but on 61-62 knobs you would need to grind the knobs to weaken them and make them release. The new knobs are threaded inside so you need to run a die over the shaft to thread it and install the new knob with locktite. Or you could just buy new cables, but The new knob route is a good way to go if your cables are in good condition otherwise. John- Top

Re: 61 Heater Control Instrument Bezel Removal
Craig,
Its best to remove the console bezel and cables all as one unit. Un-hook the cables at the fresh air hose, heater and defog flap. Remove the centre console and heater switch and cables as one unit. BECAREFUL NOT TO DAMAGE THE HEATER SWITCH!!! very expensive.- Top

Re: 61 Heater Control Instrument Bezel Removal
Craig, Peter is exactly right. That will teach me to read the posts better, I thought you were asking how to replace the knobs. If the only thing you want to do is remove the bezel then just remove it cables and all. The cables are designed to remove from the front of the panel. John- Top
