Does anyone know if A.J. Foyt Chevrolet in Houston (zone 30, #188) was in bussiness in 1969?

I don't think so.
I shopped for a new Corvette during the summer of 1970 in Houston. There were three dealerships in Houston proper that I remember: Knapp downtown, Richardson due west, and Boyd Mullens in the southeast. Richardson had the most Corvettes. Mullens specialized in pick-up trucks.
I believe A.J. Foyt Chevrolet opened in the southwest corner of Loop 610 during the mid-seventies. I ordered a '77 wagon through them.- Top

Re: A.J.Foyt dealership in Houston
What I do know is that they changed names to TexStar in the late 80's and closed in '91. I just do not know if they were open in '69. Dealer code/zone Data base does varify back to '74. My tank sticker is not real good in the "zone-Dealer" area. It looks like zone 30 and dealer 188(not real cear) which would be A.J. foyt.- Top

Call Ken Naber at (713) 664-5018
Ken and Gary were running a couple of Houston Gulf stations in the late sixties. Gary was doing fiberglass work in one of the service bays while he was still in school.
They both bought new Corvettes every year during the late seventies from A.J. Foyt Chevrolet. The Naber brothers were friends of the fleet sales manager. I think they always bought their parts at Richardson though. Anyway, they will remember exactly when Foyt Chevrolet first opened.
That dealership really did a number on Bud Meredith of Austin. He was living in Houston during the seventies and put a deposit down to order a '78 Pace Car replica. When Foyt found out his dealership was only getting one Pacer (he didn't win the 500 that year), he refused to sell it to Bud. He wanted to keep it for himself. They finally got one for Bud from another dealership after some legal threats. Eewww!- Top
