Part number help - Joe Lucia

I have a shifter knob, part number 3845895 Group 4.006. Don't have it listed in the parts books I have. Can you tell me year(s) Corvettes it is for?

Also earlier I asked about a speedometer and got no replies. It is has a black face, goes up to 165MPH in white lettering, and has yellow lettering KPH markings. 55 is specifically highlighted so it must be from the era of the 55MPH speed limit. There are ink markings on the back of the speedometer face but I can't make them out. The only marking I can find is "25024059". Looks like a part number but is not in any parts books I have. Any ideas on that one?

    Thanks so much!

    Nick-----

I can't confirm it at the moment, but if the shifter knob is black Bakelite plastic and if it actually is a Corvette piece, then I expect that it's the 63-only shifter knob.

The speedometer is a late 70s unit of some sort. It sounds like it might be for an "export" car. I'll have to check on it later. It was certainly NEVER originally used in any 60s Corvette and, as far as I know, is not a SERVICE part for any 60s Corvette, either.

        Joe,

I'm not totally sure that the shifter knob that is in this box actually came in the box but the group and description fits. Anyways, the knob is a chrome ball. It looks like the one in my 67. Thanks! I appreciate anything you might be able to tell me about the speedometer!

GM #3845895 was not originally a Corvette part. It is the shifter knob used for 1964-67 full size passenger cars with 4 speed and bucket seats. It was discontinued in May, 1972 and replaced by GM #3857160. The latter part is the PRODUCTION and SERVICE part number for the 64-68 Corvette manual transmission shifter knob. How it differs from the 3845895 I do not know. Certainly, we know that the 3857160 can be used in place of the 3845895. However, that does not mean, for sure, that the 3845895 can be used in place of the 3857160. Most likely, it can. But, we don't know that for sure.

                Addendum

                Nick---

By the way, I came up with nothing on the GM #25024059. It was never available in SERVICE, so it must be a PRODUCTION-only part number. Based upon your description AND the part number, it sounds like it must be a 1981, or so, issued part. The only problem is that 1981 Corvette speedometers did not have a face plate which read to 165 MPH; they were 85 MPH tops, as I recall. I believe that 1977 was the last year to use a 160 mph speedometer. Then, it dropped to 140. I don't know of any Corvette or other GM car that ever went to 165 MPH.

Thanks so much! Can't see how this part wouldn't would in place of the 7160.
