Re: Trailing Arm Toe-In Shims & cotter pin retaine

Thank you for this clarification Terry. My original owner 70 was built in July 1970 and it did not come from the factory with slotted shims. This is one reason that 4 wheel alignments can cost more because of the labor involved to remove the shims becasue you have to remove the bolt to change them.

Thanks Jim for the confirmation. As I recall 1970 model year production ran through the entire month of July. So unless your car was built in the last week of July, it is consistent with the research we did in 1993 for the second edition of the 1970-72 TIM&JG. I believe we included that information in that edition and that it is also in the third edition, but I am working off memory.

That works for me too. I just removed my original T-arms a few weeks ago and found non-slotted (rusted) shims. I'm quite certain they had never been out of the car before. But mine is more of the early than late vintage (Feb 18 1970 build date). Despite the groans of the mechanics at Tony's Corvette, I'm putting the 2 hole shims back into the car. They'll get to do the alignment on the beast when I get it back together. ~Juliet
