I'm looking for GM part number 9420137. It's a "j" nut that fastens the front grille on my '72. I can't find the part and am asking for an alternative that would fit. Is this something that your average hardware store or auto parts store would provide? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks is advance.

GM #9420137 was never available in SERVICE. It's a part which GM describes as "Not Considered a Service Part". You should be able to find a suitable replacement for it at your local hardware store.In Appreciation of John Hinckley -

Like Joe mentions J-nuts are available at hardware stores and specifically at Lowes. In their nut-bolt-screw section they carry several automotive fasteners. I discovered that the well-nuts used for attaching luggage racks can be found there as well.Comment
