    Rear axle housing

I am restoring a 57 Vette and discovered that the spring perches on the axle housing are bent. The tube is also collapsed slightly and the U-bolts are impressed into it as a result. Long story short, I need a new one. Does anyone know if they all the same from 56 to 62?

I believe the '57 and '58 are the only ones that will work for the '57. The '56 has no drain hole, neither does the '62. The '59-62 have the traction bar hardware welded on top of the housing. The bearing flange depths are shallower on the '57 axle housing compared to the later ones as well. I'm sure there may be other differences I haven't touched on. Good luck.

        Fred,

If can't find a good used one, or for a reasonable price, check into the cost to re-tube the one you have. I know it is done all the time, on medium-duty trucks and trailer axles. Call a few driveline shops in your area, they should know the shops that do it. I hope this helps. Dave

Thanks for the input guys. Dave I did check with a drivetrain shop. They can fix it but they dont have the original type spring perches with a flange. Anyone know where you can get those?

Fred, Glad I could help. On the spring perches, I don't know if they are the same as 58-62. I am sure if someone on this board knows, they will let you know. Most times, there is no problem re-using the spring perch brackets. Dave
