    '70 heat/ignition shielding

    Small block.
On the left front (1 and 3) I have having trouoble installing the spark plug heat shield and ignition shield. I can get one or the other on, but not both. After the heat shield is installed, does the ignition shield go above it or below. I am referring to where the hump is for the water temp sending unit. In other words, which unit is closer to the exhaust manifold.

    Robert:

The best source for assembly of that disaster is the AIM. It has a good exploded view of where everything goes and their relative positions -- and there are lots of parts as I am sure you are aware!

Jack Humphrey explained it to me this way: "You have to put it all together loosely and get the geometry relative and it will seem impossible at first but you will eventually get it." Several have said this is why many folks do not reinstall it as it is a real PITA when you have to do a tune-up and why Vettes cost 2-3X more when one is done. It does look sharp though when it is right :-)

I know that doesn't exactly answer your question but maybe it will help a bit. Check out the AIM -- the exploded view is VERY helpful.
