    Mid Year Spare Tire Tub

My '64 327/300 has P205/75R15 tires on what I believe are '67 rally rims. My question is whether these will fit in the standard mid year spare tire tub. If so, will the stock '64 bolts work or are longer bolts required? The car currently doesn't have a any of the spare tire tub pieces, so I have to either buy aftermarket or search the swap meets. I'd like to have an idea of what will work though before I buy anything.

As always, thanks for any help you can give.

The rally rim will fit. The 205 may give you a problem due to variations of various tire manufactures width at the widest point. I would suggest to use the longer bolts for the carrier lid that are associated with gold lines or 67 red lines. This would be point deductions on the judging field with incorrect botls for 64 hub cap car (as well as rally rim and radial tires). But this would be a perfectly functional assembly. I even had problems fitting a repop tire in my correct 65 tire stowage well becauce the repop was fatter and a little bigger diameter than the real original tire.

My spare tire well (which I can tell is original via the correct date stamp, tub and lid) doesn't quite close all the way even though the spare is a very old (unused & maybe original) 7.75 x 15 whitewall Laredo "The Rain Tire" on an original "DG" (yes "DG" not "DC") rim. Did these wells ever seal up all the way? I'm virtually certain that the bolts have not been replaced either.

Does anyone know how to decode the DOT date code on the back of these tires? Unfortunately I don't have the code handy, but any help would be appreciated.

By not close all the way I assume you mean there is about 5/8 inch gap between the lid and the tub. This is common with std tire width and original pair of lid bolts. The optional tires use a longer set of lid bolts that drops the lid farther away from the tub about another 1/2 inch. This allows for the fatter cross section of gold, red lines. Hope this covers your question.
