61 Steering Column Removal

Is there a simple way to remove the entire 1961 steering column shaft? I need to repaint the upper portion to match my interior color. Thanks, Craig

Craig, you will need to drop the column inside the car, remove the plate at the firewall, remove the pitman arm, and unbolt the box from the frame. The box will need to be rotated with the sector shaft up and then the entire column and box can be slid out. Obivously, the hood would need to be removed. John

Be glad you don't have a '57 - they don't have a removable "saddle" at the instrument panel like '58-up do - makes it even more fun
