I'm rebuilding the steering box on my 67' L79 and I just pressed the Pitman shaft bushing back in. The inside bushinr (the one that's harder to reach) started a little crooked and then went in! Now the pitman shaft will go in but stops about an eigth of an inch short of going through the bushing!! I coild probably force it through but it will bind very badly. Any tricks to fixing this or is it time to order another bushing and start over? Thanks !! Mike Arteaga

Re: Pitman binding
Mike - I guess a large reamer is out of the question, but, if you have access to a machinist or supply house, they make scrapers with various coutours to remove excess metal in instances like this. I ahve one with a curved contour, that works very well for high spots such as this, such as in bearing inserts, etc. I would not use any lapping compound, it will imbed in the soft phosphor bronze bushing and cause damage. Good luck!...Craig- Top
