    Engine Identification

    Hi,

I have a 72 Wagon, still trying to identify which kit it is, no
side windows, the back window does not open, however Im looking
for some help to identify and decode the number on my engine pad.
    : VO 89980 O
(The "O" behind the V seems to be a the letter O not Zero,
likewise the "O" at the end of the number.)

    I have the Casting number:
    : 14816379
: Other numbers I found but dont know what they mean are
    : G99 and 48GM.

    : The Vin number is : 1Z67K2S508912,
I have worked this lot out but it does not help,
as I know the engine was replaced. (the K would mean Standard 72 motor)

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Many thanks

    Don Tredoux

    Don -

It's probaby 14316379, which was used for many different 350's from '69-'85 in trucks with a 2-piece rear seal, and in passenger cars from '78-'81.

        Hi John,
Thanks for this, I think you are right about the number. The "8" should be a 3.
Is there any way that I can tell the HP rating etc of this engine?

            Don -

The pad stamp indicates that it's a service replacement engine, but I'm not aware of any way to decode it; a production engine would have a 4-digit number after the "V" to show the production date, followed by a 3-digit letter code which would identify the specific application.
