I installed a new double roller chain and sprockets this weekend. It was real tight going on, almost to the point of no chain flex. It loosened slightly when in final position. How tight is the chain supposed to be when installed. I wanted to find out before starting the car.

It's supposed to be VERY tight with virtually no ability to flex in the sections between the sprockets. It's almost impossible to have too tight a chain; it's VERY possible to have too loose a chain. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: timing chain install
before you put the front timing gear cover on make sure that the chain does not hit the block at the top behind the cam gear. some blocks will allow this to happen because of the way it was cast when using a double roller chain.- Top
