Every now and then comes a moment when one realizes that he should have stuck to tasks more familiar ... HELP!!
My '58 is up on jackstands and in many pieces. I pulled the speedo cable off the T-10 to check the condition of the driven gear, as the speedo was not working when last driven. It is a 4-speed T10 with a T10-7D tail end.
When I pulled the collet (?) out, the gear stayed in. I inadvertently pushed the gear into the tranny. Almost fished it out, on my back with a mirror and a lamp and a wire, then ... (sound of doom) ... the @#$%^ thing fell inside and forward (I think that's where it is - I can't get an angle to see it now). Space is very tight around that opening, as it is about directly above the crossmount.
Am I screwed? Is there a way to fish it out without having to pull the engine+tranny? Will the (appeared beige plastic) gear jam things up? Is it possible that the floor of the box is benign in that area, and it can be left there?
