The owners manual specifies AC44 plugs for my 66 327/300hp. All I have been able to find are AC44XLS, AC44TS, AC44T, but no plain AC44. Does anyone know if any of these will function properly in my engine?
The original spark plugs for you car, AC 44, GM Part #1559492, have been discontinued. They have been replaced in service by the AC R43, GM part number 5569992. Any GM or Delco dealer can order the plugs for you under this part number. However, as an alternate to the above GM-recommended replacement, you could use GM # 5613865, which is one heat range hotter than the 5569992. Your original 1559492 plug was a non-resistor-type plug. The 5569992 and 5613865 are resistor-type plugs. The purpose of resistor plugs is to improve radio performance. In that respect, they should represent an added benefit if your car is radio-equipped.
