    Outside Mirror Loose

How can I tighten the outside mirror on my 67 convt? The mirror base is secure to the door, it is the mirror itself. Is there a way to remove the mirrored glass from the unit and fix and rlpace the glass? I don't want to wreck it or replace it - its original. TIA

There should be a flat ring retainer on the outside of the glass that fits into a groove of the mirror metal. You can find a starting point of the retainer and using a small knife blade or screwdriver work the retainer out of the groove. It takes time and go slow but it comes out. this holds the glass in. Once you get it out, behind the glass are some springs and a flat metal plate. If the metal outside piece is whats loose, there is a retainer plate that is bradded over the swivel ball. Your loosness may be in this plate tightness. There are several ways to take up the loosness here using some shim stock amterial to fit between the ball and palte, or retightening the retainer plate by hitting the retainer plate brads with a small hammer. Think that is what you mean. There are vendors that will do this reconditioning and install a new dated mirror.

Try a drop of loctite on the ball.
