I took off my ignition shielding (1967 Coupe), took off the driver side brackets as well. Cleaned everything up. And now I'm having way too much trouble re-installing the shielding. The holes in the driver side vertical piece wont line up with the holes in the brackets. I've tried bending the brackets a bit...but no luck. Anyone have any hints. Thanks.

This is usually always a very frustrating process. It's always a lot easier to remove the shielding than it is to re-install it. I suggest leaving ALL of the bolts and screws loose until ALL are installed. Then, tighten them all. This DEFINITELY includes the manifold bolts which retain the support brackets which the wing screws thread into.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: Ignition Shielding
Joe, I just came in from the garage and my shielding is now perfectly in place. I actually removed the two brackets that hold the left vertical shield, fastened the shield to the brackets with the wingnuts, and then mounted the brackets back on the block. Now that the brackets were properly positioned, I removed the wingnuts, put the igmition wires and grommets in place and reinstalled the shield. On the other side of the engine, I fastened the verical shield to one of the horizontal shields and then fastened them in as one unit. It was tight getting my hands in there....but it worked. So simple, isn't it?- Top

Re: Ignition Shielding
I had a similar problem installing that part on my 63. It turned out I had the part up side down. Make sure the curved edge lines up with the location of your master cylinder. It is designed to fit around a power brake booster. Yor should be able to start all fastners. Once all fastners are started you can tighten them down.- Top
