I have a pre-production '65 (s/n 000008) and I'm wondering if anyone is mainting a registry or has collected info. I saw 001 at springfield in '95 and he had a great book, but we have lost contact. Any comments? Thanks in advance.

Re: pre-production car info
1965 VIN # 00001 was for sale in Hemmings a few months back -- contact Bill or Linda (207) 799-0514 before 9pm EST (Portland Maine). I seem to recall VIN #00003 (a convertible) at the St.Louis NCRS national meet in 1980 or '81. The first '65 delivered to Canada was # 00029. I'm at the other end of production with # 23564.- Top

Re: pre-production car info
Here's a little info about the car that may be interesting to some. It is a fairly loaded FI roadster with F40, power windows, power brakes, leather, 2 tops, KOs, and others. The date codes are circa june 23, 1964 with no assy date per se though there is an "A" near the assy date field. Body no. is 003. The most interesting parts are the gauges. The rear of the instrument case is plain metal (no plating) with blue stamped part numbers of all the gauges loaded in the cluster. There are several 1/2" round blue stamps that say "show job". These stamps are also on the back of the gauges themselves. The parts, especially the sheetmetal ones are clearly not machine made and show hand work. The tachometer is especially "off" with pure white face lettering and un-sharp letters. Originally I thought it was a repro, but rear stamping is similar to others. Other differences: the car has both fender flags and FI emblems, as in '64. There are two sets of air cleaner holes in the left apron, one set matches a production air cleaner, the other is "off". The man who owned it in '72 reports 64 style seats, though it now has '65 style. I believe it was an exec. car as I have not seen it in period publications and it doesn't show the effects of studio or engineering use. 'hope this is interesting.. :)- Top

Re: pre-production car info
Those early cars are neat. There was a 63 number 13 that was for sale outside Rochester NY in 97. We took a look at it, the roughness of the fiberglass in the door jambs and under body was interesting to say the least. The body had been removed at one time making validation of originality difficult. The owner claimed it was a fuel car. Motor was replaced but the fuel unit could have been correct for this car, low enough number but not complete (it was sitting on the work bench).- Top
