    70 Shocks...........

My very original, 26,000 mile, 70 LS5 has blue Monroe shocks, and the rear ones appear to have black-out on them. My VIN is 531, the 5th day of 70 production. Could it be possible that my car could have come with Monroe shocks vs Delco? I'm wondering if the srtike may have something to do with it? I have yet to ask the original owner, but plan on to.

    Thanks, Chris

I never say never, but if the shocks say Monroe I would rate it most unlikely that they were installed at St. Louis. Perhaps the black paint on them is the result of an owner inspired undercarriage "touch-up."

With that 454 residing up front, you can bet that they were replaced.

Often times, even aftermarket shocks will have a date code stamped on them somewhere. Look for it and, if present, I think that it will rule out that they were factory installed.

Also, while I expect that it's REMOTELY possible that they could have been factory installed in the direst of circumstances, if they had been factory-installed I can almost guarantee you that they wouldn't have been installed with Monroe labels on them. At a minimum, if Monroe had supplied shocks to GM PRODUCTION, they would have been supplied sans any labels, especially prominent ones. If your shocks carry prominent labels with the Monroe brand name, they are aftermarket-type, replacement shocks.
