68 heater box installation?

I'm putting new dash insulation on my 68 with A/C. From what's left of my old dash insulation, and the assembly manual, it looks like the insulation is cut out to match the hole in the firewall, and the heater box sits on the insulation without any added gasket or seal. Is the right way to do it?

My AIM UPC 1, Page D9, and UPC C60 Page A5 do not show any gasket between the heater box and the firewall only the dash mat. UPC C60 page D1 shows a gasket between the AC box and the firewall on the engine compartment side. I seem to recall this was how my car looked when I had the heater box out last winter. My car also has AC.

On a related note could you drop me an e-mail if your car is an early built 68, around October 1967. I am trying to research door panel attachment details.
