    66 BB Radiator Support Bolts/Washers

There are 6 bolts on the top of the 66 and 67 BB radiator supports - 2 left / 2 center /2 right. All have smaller lock washers on top of flat thin washers on the leading edge (front) side. My 66 BB has an extra thick washer in addition to the thin washer on both center bolts which fasten to the fan shroud support. I researched the Noland Adams book and the Judging manual and either missed it or it is not there. Can you BB owners take a look at yours and tell me what you have as original?

I have two 66 big blocks, but can only look at one right now b/c the other is in a remote location. The one I looked at just now has the thick washers in the two center locations, in addition to the thin flat washers and the lock washers. All four outer bolts have the thin flat washers and lock washers.

The car I can't examine right now is a Bowtie car, and I don't recall the configuration - I will have to check it out and report later. I do recall looking at lots of '66 and '67 big block cars at the Sun Valley National meet, b/c there was lots of discussion about the many configurations encountered (thin washers only, thick washers, lock washers only, and all these variations were observed in all bolt positions - there was very little consistency). Maybe additional owners can contribute.

Everette- yours is really helpful response - I look forward to hearing what your survivor shows - also - production sequence may have a role here ie early or late production - hope with addition input we can figure this out - interesting to see how the judges handle this.

I have looked at the washer configuration on hundreds of 66 and 67 BB cars at many shows over the last five years. There does not appear to be any consistancy at all. This includes those rare Bloomington and Carlisle Special display cars.
