    Wiring harness replacement

I was trying to find out why my ammeter was not working on my '65. Only has power to one pole. A continuity test to the horn relay is OK. Same with the starter solenoid lead. The problem is they both go to the same pole on the ammeter. Looking at the wiring harness coming from the starter I see lots of electrical tape and bulges. Underneath the tape are two clipped wires, one of which goes back to the ammeter on the "dead" side. I also notice other areas of "much" electrical tape on the harness.
The question is it as easy to replace the engine compartment harness as it looks? Does this harness combine with the lighting harness? On mine they are taped together on the right side firewall.

Very Easy! Just don't take the old harness off until you are ready to do the new one. Start at one end, unplug the old and plug in the new as you go. I would get both the light harness and the engine harness.

        Lighting harness and engine harness

As I examined my situation further I remembered I have a '65 with a '66 block which puts the alternator on the drivers side. I see Lectric Limited makes an adaptor harness for this situtaion. Are there any other suppliers that are recommended?
Any suggestions or pitfalls to look out for would be appreciated.
