    Zinc Chromate Primer applications

The green stuff (rust prevention)that many of the windshield frames and under dashs were sprayed with. My question is about the backside of the headlight bezel (68) and the door. (underside of the lid that gets painted). These were sprayed this color green? I stripped them down and found remnants of this paint/primer. I know and assume that this area will never be seen, but I'll know it was done to factory specs and applicational purposes. Does any one know what areas were painted(underside, top, bottom?) of this pieces. I know the steel rails (structure under the door) were also painted/sprayed. I have the "OEM Paints version of the Synthetic Zinc Chromate Primer)(dull green)from Paragon. Were the headlight doors on of off the body when painted? Certainly there was some overspray, My car is black though. Basically how was the assembly painted and assembled. (not put together, but assembled and painted.) what was on off when primed, and on/off when painted exterior color.) or was it completly assempled after primed and then painted (on/off car) completly assempled as a unit. (cups, rings, links, lights, T-3, springs?)

    Thanks, jc

Chester, basically, most natural steel structural items that did not received body paint were coated with zinc chromate to protect against rust. This includes the entire bird cage and selected ancillary items.

One brief note on zinc chromate. PLEASE use appropiate respiratory protection when applying it. It is very toxic. Read the label and the Material Safety Data Sheet (if available).

Chester, I'm telling you this from experience of my very early '68 which may differ from later production. The head lite buckets appeared to be green zinc chromated prior to assembly both inside and outside surfaces. This was followed by red oxide primer that appear to be done after assembly to car on outside surfaces only. In addition, the cross bow that supports the forward edge in front of the hood is green zinc chromate.
