    Electrically Challenged

I am waiting for my 696 to be returned, in the meantime I have a 693, 37 amp. I am wondering :
1.Why did GM bother to increase the amperage to 41 when equipped with T.I. ?
    2. Will any damage result in using a 37 amp alternator with 427 and T.I., (NON A/C) ?
    3. Will any conflicts arise if the 37 amp were changed to 61 ?

    Obviously Lectric Limited Jer "D
    Thanks to any / all

Jerry, I can't answer you directly but I can say that the original 37 amp alternator in my 66 got rebuilt to a 60 amp without any external differences. The discussion with the alternator shop was that it wouldn't hurt and if I ever needed extra juice it was there. Since 12 volts is 12 volts, there wasn't anything that should go wrong or did go wrong.

Since the TI draws about eight amps versus four amps for the single point, the alternator output was increased.

A 37 amp might result in insufficient voltage at idle if you turn on all electrical accessories.

The voltage regulator should always maintain system voltage at 13.5 to 14.5, so excess alternator capacity will do no harm. You can upgrade most 32-42 amp alternators to about 60 amps by just installing a 60 amp stator coil.
