    Z-06 Bellhousing????

I have a two-piece cast iron (very heavy, probably 40 lbs) bellhousing that I would like some help with. It was obviously designed for racign appications and has the following markings on it:

CS 6364 (not sure what this means)

RC. IND. INC. (I think this is the mfr - RC Industries Inc)

    CHEVY STINGRAY

NHRA - AHRA APP (approved by NHRA and AHRA for drag racing)

M?DINA. O. (could this be Medina, Ohio- was RC industries

located in Medina in the early 60s?)

Was this type of bellhousing used by the factory race teams in the early 60s? I don't think the Lakewood "Hydroformed" bellhousings came along until the mid 60s. Has anyone seen one of these installed on an early 60s Corvette race car? This reportedly came off a 1964 big brake, big tank fuel car that was raced in the Northeast. As always, thanks for your help. Rex #8089

sounds like a early version of a scatter shield before the hydoformed ones.

        Russ,

-------R.C.Industries was started by a guy named Russ Cieffert(spelling)in Medina Ohio in the mid 60s.Along with his blow-proof bellhousings(which were very good units)he had a complete speed shop.It was half way between my house and my job back then and I stopped there almost every day.For awhile one of Ohios most famous drag-racers,Akron Arlen Vanke, worked there with Russ, and often used to show up at our familys hardware store to buy all kinds of stuff.Ive heard that Russ is a real big-wig in the aftermarket wheel industry, but havent seen him since those days...........Bill S
