'67 spare tire: DOT code help on a Laredo whitewal

    Hello again.

The spare tire in my '67 convertible has a "DG" rally (NOT "DC") with a "virtually" unused tire (although the back of the rim shows this tire has been on a car). This tire is the same one that is shown in the Dobbins Vette Vues book for a '67, but he doesn't mention DOT codes for a '67. It is a Uniroyal Laredo whitewall with what I think is a DOT marking (stamped into the backside of the tire) of "GT7788". I know how to decode current tire-dating codes, but this code doesn't fit with current coding structure. Can anyone help with this code?

Did original '67 tires have a DOT code?

The other info. on the tire is as follows (all raised type): 7.75-15, 1738-420, 66 AC 38. Under Uniroyal (which is boxed) it says U.S. Rubber, and on the back side of the tire it says "the rain tire".

John, DOT started in 1968 I'm told. It would appear your tire was replaced early in your car's life.
