    C1 Heater Ground

I know I have seen this discussed before but could not find it in the archives. Where does the heater fan motor get its ground? There is only one wire coming out of the motor itself and the whole unit mounts to the fiberglass firewall.

    Bob,

I'm only guessing, but on my 59 one of the heater mount bolts go through the hood latch/cable mount bracket which is in turn connected via the cable to the framework under the dash.

    Sounds reasonabe to me!

Also, grounding would be through the heat cable that opens and closes the water valve.

If I'm not mistaken, the heat cable isn't grounded because it goes to the console panel that is also mounted to fiberglass. And I would be surprised if the hood release cable provides a solid ground since it is a loose fit to the hood release lever.
I did have the entire heater assy powder coated which may be my problem but, I still think there should be a solid ground somewhere in the circuit. I know it works, I bench tested it before installing.

                Bob,

When I disassembled my '58, I found a separate wire connecting the heater housing to the metal support structure behind the kick panel. I believe the wire was brown and went up over the top of the kick panel. It was attached with a sheet metal screw on the kick panel end, and with one of the heater housing screws on the heater end.

I checked my 58 and indeed there is a seperate wire running from the fan to the aluminum brace behind and above the passenger kick panel.

My '57 shows the same thing - separate ground wire from the blower mounting flange screw at about one o'clock over to a hole in the aluminum brace above the top of the kickpad. This isn't shown in the A.I.M. electrical section or heater section - that illustration refers to the "3136219 heater unit", which was the boxed accessory heater system supplied for dealer installation; that "heater unit" package most likely had its own installation instructions that showed the wiring.

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you. I knew there had to be one somewhere in the circuit.
