    427/390 cast date codes

Just bought 66 roadster the cast date code forward of the starter is very poor to read its # looked filled in. Here is the info eng casting 3869942 (427/390) body date ko8 (june 8th) vin 6124456 (end of june but do not know day) eng pad looks proper to my eye vin match eng# T0609IL (427/390 manual june 9th)Cast date on block best guess F76 (june 7th 66)it appears to have a soild circle first then the f the 7 is best seen and the 6 is poor and after the 6 looks like another # or another filled circle

Does any one know the asy date from the above?

Does theys dates fall inline with NCRS guidelines?

What should I do about the cast date? should I take a wire brush to them? I cleaned some paint off them but stopped as I did not want to make it worse.

Is it possible that the last casting left material and bonded to my engine? is this common?

Thanks and scared it might not be orq.

    Mike

    Mike -

What letter is ahead of the body number on the trim tag - "A" or "S"?

Come on guys does anyone have any input? I mainly would like to know about the cast date should I try a wire brush? Is it possible for it be messed up from the cast mold?

            Thanks for your time,

                Mike-

I too have a '66 L36. The build date on the engine pad is 0223, and the cast date on the block is B15 - just 5 days after casting. I've been told that the casings were machined while still warm out of the moulds, so I suppose 3 days is reasonable.

I've found that date castings are typically hard to read, i.e. not very clear where sand filled in parts of numbers the screw head (shift) marks. Have you tried making a rubbing with a paper and pencil? Suggest you give this a try to get a clearer read.
