With all due respect, the purchased "Dr. Rebuild" bushings are still in the bag as received, and a pair of them extends 3.5 inches in length whereas the bracket span is 2-3/8.
I seriously doubt that compressing these bushings is the answer!
Bert Brown has just ordered a set from CC - we'll see if those look a better fit.
Bert has talked to Joe Calcagno, who indicated that indeed GM had some problem at some point in defining the bushings for this application.
