my belgian cousin is asking me to trace the origin (previous ownership information) of two corvettes he has been restoring. One is apparently comes from Florida, the origin of the other is also US, but state unknown. I have the model, year and serial Nr but that is all. Can it be done and how should I proceed???? Thanks for any suggestions. The cars are from 1961 and 1971.

Re: tracing corvettes
Had the distinct pleasure of judging a Belgian Corvette in England last summer. SUPER car! Not often we get the opportunity to get up close and personal with a low mileage '68 that's actually 'untouched' and driven....
What you've been told (in a nutshell -- NO) is true to a certain extent. The mission you've been sent on is complicated by the fact that autos in the states are registered by state. Some states have open records, some are by written request. Some keep indefinite data bases and others keep just enough data to comply with superior governing laws then discard the information.
Then, you compound these issues with the fact that people as well as cars are 'nomadic' and can/do wander across state lines. The mission you're on isn't that far off from tracing a family tree. Except birth/death records are typically retained in perpetuity....- Top
