    '63 fuel filter(s)

While shooting a fuel problem, I found a fuel filter in the back of the car, just off of the fuel tank. I have heard different stories about this. Should it be there or was it a "jury rig" by one of the previous owners. The car is a Fulie Roadster. Thanks in advance for any help.

I know of no originally-installed fuel filters mounted in the vicinity of the fuel tank for any 63-74 Corvettes. When fuel filters were used, they were either of the in-line variety mounted somewhere between the fuel pump and carburetor (or FI unit) or mounted in the inlet fitting of the carburetor.

Is this fuel filter of an in-line variety connected by hoses/clamps at either end to steel fuel line with the filter, itself, otherwise unsupported? If so, this is a very non-PRODUCTION-like installation which I doubt that GM would have ever installed under any circumstances.

The 300, 340, and 360 HP engines used an AC GF90 fuel filter that has threaded fittings. The 250 HP engine used a sintered bronze filter that was installed in the carb. fuel inlet. There was no fuel filter between the tank and the fuel pump.
