    BB motor mount change

How much work is involved in changing the drivers side and passenger side motor mount on a 71 big block with power steering and a non a/c car? My concern is that my entire exhaust system is welded on other than at the exhaust manifold flange. I am told i can jack up the engine with a piece of wood by the bottom of the oil pan? Do i need to unhook the exhaust flange and how far to jack it up? I think my motor mount is getting soft because the fan blade is hitting the fan shround when i nail it hard, at rest i have a good 1/2 to 3/4 inch of clearance and the fan blade is just taking shavings off of the upper passenger side of the shroud, yes i have played with the adjustment. This all started after i went to a solid cam and installed the fan to crank belt that was missing. I thought it would clearance itself with enough full throttle shots, but it has not yet

    Re: BB motor mount change

    Jeff -

I wouldn't jack under the pan, even with a block of wood - it will damage the pan. I'd suggest making a "saddle" similar to the one shown in the link below that will lift the engine on the pan rail bolt heads instead. I use the one shown on C1's, but the same concept will work with different dimensions for a BB. The base is a 2x6 and the sides are 1x6; the notch is for the dipstick "bump" in the pan rail.
