    C1 gas tank mounting

I'm in the process of replacing the original gas tank in my '58. The AIM cites a "3724036 Support" in the area of the rear strap attachment. I can't tell what this part is - I've looked in several catalogs. Does anyone know? I'm thinking it might be something to keep the bolt accessible (mine was so squeezed by the tank that I wouldn't put a wrench on it - not that it mattered, it was thoroughly rusted to the nut plate).

The support bracket you are refering to is a small plate that sets atop your fiberglass body opposite the bracket into which the strap bolt screws. The bracket and the support sandwich the body glass and are secured with rivets. The support keeps the rivits from wollowing out the glass when you torque the strap mounting bolt. The other end of the tank strap does not have a similar support because there is no torque applied to that bracket. it is rivited directly to the glass. If your mounting brackets are in place and rivited - the support will still be there, you just can't see it under the tank strap.

Thanks! that makes sense. I'll see them soon, after I defeat the rusted bolts at the rear. I didn't notice these in the catalogs, maybe I need to search again. But, probably less need to replace than the others which look like hardware on pictures of undersea sunken ships.
