I am restoreing a 54. My Engine is a correct casting 3835911 but the stamp is foreign to me. Instead of the F54YG it is F54X. The serial number is also unusually high 1009532. My car's S/N is E54S003034. Any ideas on what these number mean ? Or info. as to it's origin would be appreciated.

The GM #3835911 casting was used for other applications besides Corvette. So, I expect that the "X" suffix code denotes one of them. At the moment, I can't tell you what the "X" suffix code was used for, but I may be able to later. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: 54 Engine Origin ?
I belive the "X" is for half ton pick-up trucks. The 911 is/was the HD block and was not used exclusively in Corvettes. What's the casting date....located above the starter? Also, the head should be 241...not 911. Chuck1963 Corvette Conv. 327/360 NCRS Top Flight
