    Tanks A Lot

The tanks I am talking about are fuel tanks, specifically those of 1965 vintage. When I removed my tank, I found no evidence of any stencil markings on it. I have seen some examples showing "St. Louis P.N. xxxxxxxxx" appearing on the left side of the tank. The TIM&JG does not mention any stencilling on the tank. My car has a Smith body, and was built in May 1965. Anyone know if this tank was originally stencilled.
    Thanks in advance.

The tanks were shipped to St. Louis on pallets. The "St. Louis" stencilling will only be found on a few tanks from each pallet. So, it's more likeley than not that your tank never had such markings. I don't think that the part number was stencilled on all tanks, either.

        Joe:

That's interesting, and explains why the TIM&JG does not specify stencilling on the tank. They should, however, say that there "may" be stencilling on some tanks. The information on these cars is still evolving--maybe they will add the correction to a future edition.
When I pulled the body of my '65, I discovered the frame stencil on the LEFT side. I took pictures of this, and notified the 1965 Judging Team Leader. It was gratifying to see the wording change ("may") show up in the 4th Edition.
