    Re: Brake Bleeding..What am I doing Wrong..HELP

John: I am assuming what you mean by "free travel" is when you would push the brake pedal (mayby by hand) it would move 1/16" - 1/4" before you would feel it push the cylinder of the m/c ? If I understand what you are saying is when the brake pedal returns back it should let the push rod back far enough to let the cylinder of the m/c return fully?
If I do not have this free travel, do I simply loosen the jamb nut and turn the push rod? Again I am assuming I would turn it so the brake pedal would come back toward the seat?
I surely appreciate everyones thoughts and guidence. I have never taken on anything like this. When I had taken off the booster to send away I measured the distance the jamb nut was on the push rod and simply used that dimension when I re-installed. Maybe i goofed. I will check the free travel tommorrow evening.

Additional question for Wayne and John:
Wayne in your post you mentioned a pick up hole. I am assuming on the bottom of the m/c.Will I be able to see down thru the clear fluid if the pick up hole is being uncovered or opened ?
Again, thanks for all the patience

            Don:

When the pedal is at the top of it's travel(up against the rubber stop on the mount bracket), there should be about 1/16" to 3/16" free travel. This is the distance, or arc length the pedal must travel before the rod begins to move the piston in the M/C. Sounds complicated? It is not that critical--just make sure you have some "slack" in the pedal before you begin to feel resistance. Adjust, as you said, by loosening the jamb nut, and rotating the rod. I set mine to about 1/16".
When you bench bled your M/C, did you bleed until ALL the air bubbles were expelled?

                Gary,Wayne,John,Joe:
All a big "Thank You" My brakes are bled and I have a nice hard pedal. You would not believe the problem. Being a novice to this I decided to call the company who re-built my booster and chat with them. After a 10 minute conversation and I could not tell you how we got on the subject we discoverd I had put the m/c on the booster with the rubber boot that had come on it not knowing it was to come off because the booster company had put a rubber boot on theirs! I had 2 boots on ! That is pretty embarassing, but being the novice I guess I'll learn from this and I can pass this on to another novice. Again a big thanks to all . I even learned a lot just reading the posts and checking out the system. Another job tackled.By the way I do have the free travel before contact with the m/c.
