I am getting close to paint work on a 1960. This is a Feb. car with a 270. All of the major parts were made in late 1959. When stripping the paint there was red paint in the trunk areas, on the sides, back and the floor. Listed in the books it is said to have painted body color in the the trunk. This is not listed this way for a 1959. Also what do you think of the inside of the boot well, bootom of the trunk lid, and the bottom of the boot lid? Also is there red paint sprayed on the inside of the seat areas around the conv. top frame mounts. The top mounts seemed to have a small amount of overspray of red on them as well. I have a hard time going with the books becouse Iam looking at the paint right in front of me! The car is black, silver coves and a red int. What should I do? Is it possable that a body sits for a time before it is used? Thanks for ANY HELP!

Someone else will chime in who has the TM&JG and knows more about this than I do, but it is well-documented that the trunk area paint process changed a number of times in 1960 - many cars had that entire area area painted interior trim color (as was the previous practice since '53), and many others had that area painted exterior color - reasons for changing unknown. If it was mine, I'd photograph the evidence of its original color for discussion purposes and paint it the same way it was originally. But then, it's not mine....- Top

Re: 1960 trunk colors?
There is a nice article on trunk color of solid axel Corvettes in the Dec. 2001 Car&Parts Corvette magazine. The article was written by Nolan Adams. The pre-1960 trunks were the same color as the interior. The 1960 to 1962 trunk area could be black, exterior color or the interior color. My 1961 has a Jewel Blue interior with a Sateen Silver trunk area.
