    Re: Garage Heat

You have alot of options to choose from and they depend on a few details. Size of the garage, height of the ceiling, wall or ceiling mount, electric or gas. The foundation and slab construction will help, if you insulate the inside of the foundation walls and use insulation under the slab. My garage is 24x24x9H, I have 5'of 3/4 inch compacted stone under the slab, insulation on the inside of the foundation walls and two layers of 8mil poly under the slab. I choose an Empire propane heater (38,000BTU)(wall mount) with a blower installed to push the heat. It also has a Honeywell thermostat. The heater doesn't require electricity so when I loose power the heater will operate, but the fan won't. Heater should to located at the rear of the garage and you should give some thought to doors and windows. I sealed my floor with a concrete sealer to prevent dust (this is a must). Good Luck, PS make sure you give alot of thought in how high of a ceiling you want. Dick

            Mark,
We ahve a 24 x 42 9.5 high garage attached to the house. Gas fired radiant heat. 60,000 BTU. Radiant heats the objects and then the air. This is the same principal as the sun. At 40 degrees it takes fifteen minutes to get to the point that you only need a t-shirt on. The insulation and vapour barrier is also a good idea. I have four chain pulls installed in the floor. These pipe pockets are the same as the frame straightening people sell. Works great to install springs etc.
Also good security measure, just chain the car to the floor.

Re: Garage Heat -- in concrete floor

Are you comfortable with the Radiant heat over the corvette and the physical car being heated to high temperatures. It may heat the space by overheating the objects in the room. Thoughts????

With Radiant Heat, there are limits as to how close any objects can be positioned. The Users Manual would detail the safe-distance specifics for the actual Radiant unit purchased.
