    Fuel Pump Connection

    Help! I just got the fuel pump installed on my 67 small block, and the intake connector (from the tank line going into the pump) is facing toward the front of the car. How is this supposed to hook to the line coming from the tank? The fuel hose I got from Dr. Rebuild is only about 6 inches long-- way too short to make the connection. It seems like the pump nipple is facing the wrong way, and that the hose needs to make a sharp turn in the opposite direction. The fuel pump is #40503, I got it as NOS from Paragon, so it should be correct. Your advice is much appreciated!

      Brandon - I have a 67 L79....now I haven't gone through the fuel pump and verified correctness but it looks original. The pump inlet points to the front, sort of at a 45 degree angle to the crankshaft towards the RH front corner of the car. There is a 90 degree fitting threaded into the inlet port, with what appears to be a spigot making the new direction angle towards the rear of the car at about 45 degrees to the crankshaft centerline. The fuel line is retained by a spring clamp. IF mine is indeed correct, you are missing a special 90 degree fitting to get the hose to connect properly....Craig

              I have a 67 327-300 with what I believe to be and original 40503 fuel pump. The fuel inlet barb points pedominately forward and a litle bit to the right side of the car. The outlet to the carb is threaded and points forward and to the left side of the car at a 45 deg angle. The metal fuel line to the carb attaches directly to the fuel pump with no intermediate fittings.

              There is a 40503 listed for sale on he internet that was previouly purchased at Paragon 3-4 years ago. From thepictures it has a very similar fitting arrangement to mine.

              My 67 NCRS judging manual calls fr a 40433 fuel pump for small blocks. Don't know where the conflicting info comes from, but I am sticking wth the 40503.

                      Paul & Brandon - I looked again at my 327/350 and the pump sounds the same as yours Paul - there are no itermediate fittings on the outlet to carb. The intermediate fitting I am speaking of is on the inlet side, threaded into the inlet of the fuel pump. Both the inlet and the outlet of the pump appear to be similar in appearance, and the angles of exit are the same as you describe....Craig
