Are 82 T-tops specific to that year?

I am looking for a set of glass T-tops for a friend and am wondering if the original tops for an 82 are specific for that year. Also, are they smoked or mirrored or something else? Is there a specific manufacturer? Anyone know where I can get some or get some rebuilt to 82 specs?

Generally, I believe that 78-82 t-tops are interchangeable. However, the glass t-tops used in conjunction with the Collector's Edition with hatch-type rear window MAY have been different and unique.

Standard tops for 1982 were body-color and finish. With the CC1 option, the tops were "glass". As I recall, they were mirrored and/or of "smoked" glass. The Collector's Edition included the CC1 option as part of the package.

For further information, including replacement tops, I'd contact Melrose Tops. They advertise in most of the Corvette publications. The complete top assemblies, NOS or rebuilt, are DECIDEDLY NOT INEXPENSIVE.

82 T-Tops

The collector edition had bronze tinted tops as opposed to the silver mirror tint on most. The other tops will fit, but are not factory correct. I'm not sure where you can get the bronze tops. There are a few aftermarket people who sell and repair these tops, so best to contact them.

Of course, if you want to get REALLY picky about it, remember that glass tops are date coded just like any other glass.
