    casting date on '65 m/c

Can anyone advise the significance of the "239" on the bottom of my '65 standard master cylinder. It's casting number is 2225032. Is the 239 a date? Are these m/c dated? Thanks.

    Mark-----

These master cylinders were manufactured by Bendix and the casting number is a Bendix number, not a GM number. As far as I know, these units were not dated. If they were, they used a system which was unlike that used on GM-cast components. However, I do not think that the "239" is a date, but I don't know what its significance is.

Mark --- I'm not convinced that these are NOT Julian calendar dates; I've never seen one over 365. Does your car's production date follow the end of August M/C date (if Julian) ?

Indeed it does, Wayne. The AO Smith build date is August 27. I've calculated the car's assembly date to be Friday, Sept. 4, 1964, which is Julian date 247. The m/c number of 239 appears to be a right Julian date for this car.

The m/c is leaking badly, needing a brass sleeve. I was thinking of buying an already rebuilt one and using mine as a core. NOT ANY MORE!

My money's on your opinion, Wayne. Thanks.
