    stainless studs..... brass nuts??

I recall a discussion on stainless exhaust studs some time ago. Was the concensus to use stainless studs with brass nuts or stainless nuts? I cant seem to find any suppliers who sell stainless w. brass, or the brass nuts by themselves.

    Brandon-----

Stainless steel studs with the long brass nuts are the way to go for serviceability, if not originality. If you can't find the brass nuts seperately, simply look for a stud kit in the Help! or Motormite section of a good auto parts store. Then, use the nuts and discard the plated or bare steel studs. These kits are not very expensive and 2 kits will provide all of the nuts which you need.

This is what I have on my 60 driver, but I double nutted each stud since one set fell off crossing I-80 in the rain. Boy is that loud.

                Stainless plus stainless equals problem?

What was the reason not to use the stainless nuts with the stainless studs? Do they "weld" themselves together?

When I bought the stainless studs, they came with brass nuts.

                        Brandon,

The stainless nuts that come with the currently avaiable kit are the deformed thread variety. They are a pain to remove, and I have since switched to the brass ones as well. Much easier to remove!

                            Dissimilar metals

Dissimilar metals are less likely to seize than similar metals. You can't weld brass to stainless, right, but you can weld stainless to stainless, and both brass and stainless are corrosion resistant, so they are should be easier to take apart down the road.
