Joe, I just picked up a set of Fel-Pro Perma Dry Plus Valve cover gaskets. They are red with a black strip separating the front and back. Are these the real good ones that arent going to leak on me? They didnt have the cork with the steel core. Thanks. Brandon

Brandon------
Yes, those are the ones that I was talking about. I haven't tried these, but I want to. Unfortunately, I won't be running a small block anymore, so I have to wait until they release a set of this series for big blocks. When they do, I'll be the first customer.
The Fel Pro corkprene with steel core are not easy to find. Usually, you will have to get these from a speed shop type operation. Regular auto parts stores can get them, but they have to order them. Plus, these gaskets are quite expensive; about $35 per set.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

These were about 32 bucks at AutoZone. Guess I'll take a hit on judging points, but I really detest oil leaks. I'll let you know how they work out. Thanks, Brandon- Top

Re: Fel-Pro Perma-Dry Plus Gaskets-- Joe Lucia??
about a year ago I baught a pair of cork with metal in the middle valve cover gaskets, cant think of the name, may have been vector or something
they said no retorque and reusable. after a couple weeks they were leaking bad so I tightened the bolts and they were very loose and have stayed that way until just recently. also kept leaking I had to put sealant on both sides of them. I am not real happy with them for the $35 they cost me.

Will PermaDry leak if I dont use the load spreader
Joe, the PermaDry gaskets came with metal "load spreader" to distribute the force of the bolts over a larger area of the valve cover. They obviously distract from the stock look of the aluminum valve covers (L79) so I dont want to use them. Is that going to create problems? Or should I look for the Cork with metal centers? Thanks again, Brandon- Top

Brandon-----
No "load spreader" should be necessary for use with cast aluminum valve covers. The VAST, VAST majority of the valve covers which are used with these gaskets are stamped steel type. Those applications benefit from the load spreaders. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

I have used the Fel-Pro Corkprene with steel core valve cover gaskets for well over 20 years with absolutely no leakage problems. In fact, that's the only reason that I've used them for so long.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
