I need to know if it is possible to install the 327 / 4 speed as a single unit back into my 63 convertible. I have removed the hood and radiator, but not the radiator support. Will I be able to drop this in as 1 piece? Thanks Again.Pete

It's definitely possible to install the engine/transmission as an assembled unit into your 63. However, while I think that it can be done with the radiator core support installed, I'm not absolutely sure of this. If it were me, I think that I'd remove the core support. At a minimum, it should make the job easier AND you will also avoid the possibility of damaging the support in the process.
Also, I would recommend removing the core support anyway to inspect it for corrosion damage, which is OFTEN a problem for the lower member of core supports even if the rest of the car is rust free.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: Engine - Trans Installation
Installing the engine/trans as a unit is the best way IMO as you won't have to wrestle the box into place, but like Joe says, remove the radiator and core support because you have to keep the engine forward to get the tail housing up over the cross member.
Also, the car needs to be on tall jackstands to have enough room underneath to angle the box down to clear the cowl and tunnel.

Re: Engine - Trans Installation
Pete, I have done it both ways, engine or trans only and with engine and trans, at the same time. I have NEVER had to remove the radiator support on a midyear, big block or small block, to install the engine and trans together. It is tight, but with reasonable care, is not that hard. An engine tilter, makes it a piece of cake, but is not really necessary. Dave- Top
