I am currently finishing restoring my 1981 corvette. The previous owners had painted the emblems white and decorated them to match the car. I am replacing these with the stock emblems. My problem is, the 1981 nose emblem has been discontinued. If anyone can tell me where I may find one I'd greatly appreciate it as this is the last piece I need to complete my restoration. Thank you.

Re: 1981 nose emblem
If the chrome is in good shape, you can also strip the paint off the ones you have and repaint them. I found the right shade of colors for my '70 emblems in my local model / hobby shop. I sprayed it with clear afterwards to get the right gloss level. ~Juliet

Unfortunately, the 80-82 style nose emblems (each year was different, though) are a plastic-type emblem with a "sealed" surface. They are difficult, if not impossible, to restore. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: 1981 nose emblem
Juliet----
Not necessarily. Now you know the difference in these emblems. Your suggestion was a good one. It would be applicable in the case of the vast majority of Corvette emblems. 80-82 are one of the exceptions, though. Many C4 emblems are fabricated like the 80-82 emblems, too. Just another case of where future (or present) C4 restorers are going to face "special challenges" when trying to restore original parts. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: 1981 nose emblem
Joe, I'd like to thank both you and Juliet for your suggestions. I have called all over the country and keep getting the same story - no 1981 front emblems. However, I got to see the front emblem on a 1981, and found it is identical to the 1980 except for the black edges. On the one I saw, the black was actually wearing off and the silver was showing through. So I guess the 1980 emblem that just came in is going to get its edges painted black! From what I understand, the 1981 will be manufactured again just no one knows for sure when that will happen. In the meantime I believe painting the edges of the 1980 will work. Thanks again for all your help....Andrea.- Top
