I am fixin to purchase Hooker sidepipes for my smallblock 72. I was wondering if anyone had an opinion on the difference in sound between the glasspack mufflers and the reverse flow design muffler offered by Corvette Central. I want people to hear me coming, but I don't want them to say "What is that racket?"

Re: Hooker Sidepipes
Scott - I have a new set of Hooker sidepipes for my 74 that I am installing a crate LS6 with 67 Tripower. I originally bought another set for my L82 small block, and chose the reverse flow units but never ran them except for 5 minutes to test, they had a nice deep sound that was less overpowering than the glasspacks I now have for the big block, which I chose since it needed more flow than the reverse flow would provide. If you want to get a gigantic deal on a new set of reverse flows I never used....email me and we can talk...Craig- Top

Re: Hooker Sidepipes
We had Hooker sidepipes W/reverse flow muffs on my dad's 69 Vette and they sounded great. I could hear him come round the corner from quite a distance. The reverse flow mufflers are still loud. The sound did not bother me in fact I may buy another Vette with a stick shift just so I can have that sound again. NOTHING else sounds like that!
Beautiful summer day, Pam and Karen squeezed into the passenger seat, top down and cruisin' to the sound of those pipes. Thanks for lettin' me borrow the car dad!

Re: Hooker Sidepipes
Scott,
You might want to consider the spiral turbo baffles. Their website is
These baffles are easy to install and also easy to uninstall. From the sound clips that I have heard, they sound excellent. Kind of a deep throaty sound. Not that annoying loud crackle sound of glass packs. Also, from what I've been told, the Hooker mufflers rust out pretty quickly and are a SERIOUS pain to remove once they've rusted to the sidepipes.
You should definitely check out the website and decide from there.

Re: Hooker Sidepipes
Russ - I saw them last year at Carlisle...they seem like a well made unit. I was taken back by the price of $300 instead of $102 for glasspacks and $121 for reverse flow mufflers from Hooker (at least when I bought mine, not sure of the current price). They looked like they shouldn't cost any more than $150 and they would still be making a lot of money.....Craig- Top

Re: Hooker Sidepipes
Craig,
They are a bit pricey, but they sound great. Also, they won't rust out on you within a year. I've heard of a number of people who's Hooker mufflers had rusted out within a year or two. If you want, I can e-mail you a wav file that I found of a 75 with side pipes and spiral baffles.
