C1 Steering wheel orientation

A few weeks ago, there was some discussion of this, but there were conflicting opinions. First, when the front wheels are straight ahead, do the spokes of the steering wheel form a "Y", or is there one spoke that is staight up, so it looks like the Mercedes-Benz symbol?

Second, from the driver's seat, are the two pins on the hub that hit the canceling cam to the right or the left? My car's a '58. Thanks, as always!

Mike,

I would presume that the spokes should be at the "10 to 2" position allowing an unobstructed view of the instruments and I'll check the canceling pins shortly.

My wheel has a small letter "M" stamped at what I believe to be the top of the wheel. There is also a small line or "I" stamped into the top of the column shaft.

If this letter "M" is placed at the top position (the line @ top and wheels straight ahead) then the cancelling pins are on the left if viewed from the drivers seat.

With this combination, the indicator cancels within 1/6th of a turn in either direction.

With the wheel correctly installed (like a "Y", with the index mark on the steering shaft at 12 o'clock) and the wheels straight ahead, the cancelling pins on the wheel hub should be at 8 and 10 o'clock.
