When ever I have done a brake job, I have always done one wheel at a time. That was so I could use the other side as a reference to where things went. But, this time, I am doing my '63 for the first time and there are no brake parts to begin with so, I do not have any references. Could someone tell me whether the shoe with the larger pad goes toward the forward or rear side of the wheel when installing the new shoes? Is it differnet for front and back wheels?
All your questions are answered in the '63 shop manual. The primary shoe is the one with the shorter lining and it goes in the front position at all four corners. The front brake shoes are 2.5" wide; rear are 2.0 inches wide.
If you don't have a '63 shop manual, you can purchase it from the NCRS store.
