'80 shock replacement for FE7 suspension

Hi everyone. Long time lurker, first time poster. Here's my question: While removing my original Eagle GT's (some tread left, but at 22 years old, I was a little nervous about venturing too far) this week and my car on the stands, I noticed a small puddle of dark oil on the floor. It was dripping off the end of the right front shock after running down the tube. So, it looks like it's time for shocks, also. I searched the archives, but was not absolutely certain of the correct numbers for HD, FE7 original shocks. Hopefully, someone can help me with the correct info, as I'll probably need to get them from a mail-order vendor.

    thanks in advance

    Dale------

If you wish to use an OEM-type shock for your application, obtain a pair of GM #22046803 shocks. These are the current GM replacement front shock for 63-81 with F-40/F-41/FE-7 suspension systems. The configuration of this shock may not be exactly the same as your originals, but it's as close as you're going to get.

Unfortunately, the rear shocks for the 78-82 FE-7 Corvette application, GM #4993538, are discontinued and no longer available.

With the FE7 spring rates about double the base suspension, unless the shock is valved specifically for this application, they probably won't have enough rebound contol.

Spax offers shocks with adjustable (on the car) rebound damping, and they might be sufficient for the HD suspension springs.
