Re: Confusion with headlight wiring diagrams
Gary
I just reinstalled the headlights on my 63. In the "dim" mode, the outboard lamps (only) are lit . In the "bright" mode all 4 lamps will be lit . Your chance at being right is 50/50. Swap the connections if you don't guess right the first time. The ground wire is common to all 4 headlamps and the signal lamps, and is "grounded" to the radiator support.

Re: Confusion with headlight wiring diagrams
Something is wrong with your diagrams. The RH outside has three wires LG,T, and B. The B lead continues on to the inside bulb. The LG also continues on to the inside bulb. The LH set up is exactly the same.- Top

Re: Confusion with headlight wiring diagrams
Guys,
Thanks for the input.
Wayne, I agree that the wiring diagram shows the outside right light having all three wires but, at the light socket (as oppose to the harness connector) the L/G and T/W are jumpered over to the inside lightand not the B/W? I am surpirsed that both the AIM and the Corvette Shop manual shows it this way.
Oh well, thanks again, I think I will just do the 50-50 chance thing!

Re: Confusion with headlight wiring diagrams
I really dont exactly understand what yo are refering to, but at the connector for the HL harness on the LH side in fact the jumpers continue to the RH side for the LG and Tan, but the Black ground goes back independently to the chasis ground. There should be no 50/50 to it. Its a solid circuit with a ground. It can only be hooked up correctly one way.- Top

Re: Confusion with headlight wiring diagrams
Gary:
So, someone else found it huh! I found the same situation in my 1965 AIM, shop manual, AND Lectric Limited wiring diagram. If you connect the wiring as per the diagrams, then you have to use Left and Right side sealed beams. Now since these are not available, then the diagram is in error.
USE THE LEFT SIDE WIRING AS CORRECT, AND MIRROR IT ON THE RIGHT SIDE. By the way, Lectric Limited's headlight extension harnesses are correctly wired, and therefore at odds with the (incorrect) diagrams.

Re: Confusion with headlight wiring diagrams
The diagram is WRONG for the right hand side. It should be the same as the left. GM doesn't always catch every error they do. And copying a mistake and changing the date doesn't correct it either, it just perpetuates it.
